Note about the book from Dan:
Fr. Eugene Buechel spent his life in service to the Lord. He studied the Lakota people here in South Dakota for many of those years both at St. Francis on the Rosebud reservation and then later at the Holy Rosary Mission on the Pine Ridge reservation. Buechel spent much of his time documenting the language and when he passed in 1954, he left close to 30,000 pieces of notes that he had accumulated over those years.
The Rev. Paul Manhart, S.J. took on the job of sorting and organizing those thousands of notes and putting them into this informative dictionary that was released in 1983. It is still held as one of the finest Lakota-English dictionaries available today.
There are paperbacks available of this book, but we have sources a number of 1983 hard bound books and are now making them available. It is a rare find! 853 pages of the history of the language and how to better understand the grammar of the Lakota.
