Native American Hand Quilled and Hand Beaded on Brain Tanned Hide: Mirror Bag

Small in size but large in design and technique, Oglala Lakota Nation member Jared Lanz shows off his skills with both historical styles and contemporary materials.

Jared dyes his quills before application, he uses hand cut glass Italian beads. He adds metal bells and dyed horse hair tufts with metal cones. The hide is smoked brain tanned on one side and hand scraped/softened on the other.

The bag portion measures 9 inches long by 7 inches across.
