Joe Pulliam
Joe Pulliam (his Lakota name is Akicita Tokahe) is from from Pine Ridge, S.D., an Oglala Lakota Oyate member, and a proud Veteran of the U.S. Army. Joe is a single father, a student at Oglala Lakota College and his major is Education.
Joe has always loved art. After the Army he became a graphic designer / t-shirts, designing the Oglala Lakota Nation Pow Wow t-shirts for the past 15 years. He's have made posters for O.L.C., KILI Radio and Oglala Lakota Nation Pow Wow and most recently the prestigious & People’s Choice poster contest for the He Sapa Wacipi, 2009. In 2006, Joe received 1st place at the Red Cloud Art Show in watercolor and also the Aplan award for
“Outstanding Young Indian Artist”.
In 2003, Joe found his true calling as a Lakota Wicasa and to use his art to communicate a message of healing and hope to our people, to project positive, prideful and historic images for our recovery from a century of cultural genocide. He takes great pride in our history and the sacrifices of his ancestors and have devoted his life to the preservation of his people's rich and beautiful culture.
