Native American Hand Painted Buffalo Robe: The Protector

Hunkpapa Lakota artist Del Iron Cloud hand paints this particular buffalo/bison robe where it depicts a winter scene with “The Protector” materializing up from above.

Iron Cloud uses a commercially tanned buffalo robe with the hair on and paints the sueded side of the hide with acrylic paints.  He finishes it by signing the piece.
