The evergreen tree is a symbol for hope, love, peace, and healing.

Nine year old Zoey’s grandmother tells her the legend of Bear Heart, a kind and generous man, who was beloved by his people.  When he grew old, he asked the Great Spirit to help his people even after he was gone, and he was turned into an evergreen tree so he could continue to watch over them all year long.  To this day, his people gather around him to share their stories and communicate their prayers and hopes by burning the needles of the evergreen tree.
