The word Keya in Lakota means turtle in English. The turtle is a symbol of protection and is depicted in this watercolor painting by Joe Pulliam. Joe is a member of the Oglala Sioux Tribe and whose primarily does his artwork on antique ledger pages. This particular page is dated 1907.
