Description
Oglala Sioux artist, Lorri Ann Two Bulls creates ledger art portraits of Lakota women whose names she discovered on the actual United States Indian Census Rolls for the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation. The census taker, she said, must have been bilingual because the names were written in Lakota and English. Lorri Ann has copied the names exactly as they appear on the document. Capa Su (Cherry Stone) is drawn using colored pencil and ink on an 1894 tax record from Stanley County, SD.
Conservation framing enhances and protects the art.
