Local Mnicoujou Lakota artist Jim Little Wounded, hand paints the soft leather cover of this shield with acrylic paint. Jim paints the image of an emerging Mato (Bear) Spirit and adds a hand beaded Thunder Bird amulet.

Jim uses imitation red tail hawk feathers and imitation eagle feathers with tufts of fur and horse hair dangles. He finalizes the decoration of the shield with black bear claws and leather dangles that feature glass and metal beads. He hangs a small leather bundle with a quill wrapped dangle, metal cone and imitation eagle fluff.
