Native American artist Faye Charging Thunder (Oglala Lakota) creates her full size star quilt using a combination of red, blue, green, and yellow cotton materials.  She both hand and machine sews the design.  Dry cleaning is recommended to keep the colors of the quilt bright and vibrant, however, it still can be machine washed.
