Native American artist Jim Little Wounded, Mnicoujou Lakota Nation, paints the image of a Spirit Bear and then adds a beaded Wakinyan (Thunder Bird) amulet. The Bear and the Thunderbird protect the shield bearer and guide their life.

Jim paints the soft cover with acrylic paint. He attaches a cluster of imitation feathers, a large metal bell and leather strips. From the bottom of the shield, Jim hangs more imitation eagle feathers.

The piece is signed by the artist.
