Description

Mnicoujou Lakota artist Aryanna “Fred” Little Wounded, learned from her elder Jim Little Wounded, how to create historical pieces including small effigy style hand rattles.

Rattles are used for many different reasons, attracting spirits, detracting spirits, focusing your prayers, keeping the beat with your heart.

She used rawhide for the rattle, attached to a wooden handle wrapped with leather and glass beads. She decorates with dyed porcupine quills for the eyes and glass beads for the mouth. Fred paints with acrylic paints.

Measures:
Length 7 | Width 4 | Deep 1 1/2 inches.
Length includes leather dangles with glass beads.
All measurements are approximate.
