Description

Local Lakota artist Aryanna “Fred” Little Wounded, Mnicoujou Lakota, learned from her grandfather Jim Little Wounded, how to create historical pieces including small hand rattles.

Rattles are used for many different reasons, attracting spirits, detracting spirits, focusing your prayers, keeping the beat with your heart.

She used rawhide for the rattle, attached to a wooden handle wrapped with leather and a tiny bit of buffalo fur . She decorates with dyed porcupine quills for the eyes and mouth, glass beads and badger claws for horns. Fred paints with acrylic paints.

Measures:
Length 8 | Width 4 1/2 | Deep 1 3/4 inches.
Length includes leather dangles with glass beads.
All measurements are approximate.
