Description

Mnicoujou Lakota artist Aryanna “Fred” Little Wounded, learned from her elder Jim Little Wounded, how to create historical pieces including small effigy style hand rattles.

Fred utilizes rawhide for the buffalo head rattle design where she attaches it to a wooden handle wrapped with leather and a variety of glass beads.  Fred also uses acrylic paints and accents the rattle with dyed porcupine quills for the eyes and mouth.  She finishes off the design by decorating the rattle with badger claws for horns and buffalo hair.
