Description
Joelle Follows the Road, Standing Rock Sioux Nation, hand created this clutch style bag to commemorate the Kootenai and their relationship to fishing.
“I think I channeled my maternal Kootenai roots for this piece. According to my mother, her dad’s grandmother was Kootenai. It’s fascinating to me how much information you can pick up from conversations with elders. I have to explore this topic.” ~Joelle Follows the Road 2025
The Kootenai rely on fish and have perfected an understanding of fish habitats to facilitate successful fishing.
Made from felt, cotton cloth, ceramic beads, glass beads, mother of pearl shells, metal discs, metal spots, mirrors and dyed porcupine quills.
