The story of "The Woman Who Lived With Wolves" belongs to Lakota historical tradition, and is believed to be a true tale.

Legend tells that sometime in the early 1800s a party of Crow men who were on a horse-stealing expedition against their Lakota enemies also captured a young Miniconjou Lakota woman. Her Crow captors took her on horseback to their home in western Wyoming, below the Rocky Mountains, from where she later escaped, walking the hundreds of miles back home. Finally, lonely, lost and near to dying of hunger and fatigue, she was looked after by wolves.... This and many more stories are included.
