2012 Lakota Dakota Nakota Language Summit
Hosted by Tusweca Tiospaye of the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation, the 2012 Lakota Dakota Nakota Language Summit celebrates their 5th annual convention. The Summit will be held November 15 - 17 at the Ramkota Hotel, here in Rapid City, SD.
The goal of this special gathering is to not only revitalize and preserve the Native languages of the Great Sioux Nation, but for all tribes - from across the United States and Canada - committed to reviving their Native voice.
This year, the Summit will feature a Keynote Address by Earl Bull Head and an esteemed lineup of Presenters - including Albert White Hat, Ben Black Bear Jr., Joseph Lafferty, Helene Circle Eagle, Ivan Starr, Peter Hill, and Kimberlee Campbell - that will share their success stories of how they’ve helped their languages stand the test of time to remain a strong, flourishing cultural treasure.
About Tusweca Tiospaye
Tusweca (two-swe-cha) Tiospaye (tee-o-shpa-yea) is a Native non-profit organization located on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation, home of the Oglala Lakota Oyate, that is dedicated to the promotion and strengthening of the Lakota language.
The Lakota Dakota Nakota Language Summit was created by Tusweca Tiospaye in 2008 in an effort to unite the Oceti Sakowin, Seven Council Fires of the Lakota Dakota Nakota Oyate, also known as the Great Sioux Nation, in efforts to keep the Lakota, Dakota, Nakota languages alive.
