Evans carves the dance stick from wood as well as the miniature lance. He hand paints the horse dance stick with vibrant colors and then adds real horse hair for the forelock, mane and tail. Evans attaches the miniature lance to the body of the horse, the lance is stained and painted. The lance also features red wool cloth, glass beads and a metal lance tip.
Evans finishes the decoration of the dance stick with glass and metal bead dangles and a single feather.
