Native American Made Soft Bodied Doll: Grandmother Doll w Stars on Dress
Native American artist Mike McLeod, Bad River Band Chippewa, creates this example of a grandmother with long hair and long colored fringe on her dress with stars.
Mike uses commercially tanned deer leather for the entire doll. He hand paints her dress with acrylic paints and creates the illusion of eyes and a mouth with glass beads. Mike decorates the dolls hair with a tiny imitation eagle feather and a small strip of red wool cloth.
Mike finishes the decoration of the doll with small metal bells with beads for earrings, a glass beads choker, a leather belt with metal spots and brass cones with glass beads on leather dangles.
