Native American Made Hand Carved Quilled Buffalo Head Pipe Tamper
Native American artist Jim Little Wounded, Minneconjou Lakota, hand carves this tamper from wood and then decorates it with dyed porcupine quills and small glass beads.
Jim decorates the buffalo face with dyed porcupine quills and then edges the design with small glass beads. He uses two porcupine claws to imitate buffalo horns. Below the buffalo head, Jim has added more quillwork and then finishes the tamper with stain and paint.
Jim hangs two quill wrapped dangles that feature tin cones and dyed yellow horse hair, he has secured the dangles with a small metal bell.
