Native American artist Charish LeClair, MInneconjou Lakota, creates the rawhide hand rattle and then paints the Emerging Elk design on it.
Charish uses commercially processed deer rawhide, she cuts and shapes the rattle into the image of a hand. She adds a wooden handle and wraps that with leather, creating a hanger.
Charish finishes the decoration of this piece with glass beads, leather dangles, and metal cones.
