Native American Hand Made Soft Bodied Doll: Mourning Mother
There are many reasons to mourn and the Plains Indians had ways to indicate this for instance, cutting their hair and painting tears on their face, Mike commemorates loss with this doll.
Mike uses commercially tanned deer leather for the entire doll. He hand paints her dress and face with acrylic paints, he creates the illusion of eyes and a mouth with glass beads.
Mike finishes the decoration of the doll with a leather belt decorated with metal spots, tin cones with glass beads for earrings and real buffalo fur for her hair.
