Missouri Winter Count Buffalo Robe
Non-Native American artist Chris Ravenshead hand paints a rendition of the "Great Missouri Winter Count" that commemorates 131 years worth of events in the lives of the Lakota people.
Chris has reproduced “Missouri Winter Count” on a commercially tanned buffalo robe. He has used genuine sinew for stitching and a traditional bone brush for painting. This robe commemorates 131 years (from 1796 to 1926) recorded in the lives of the people who lived along the Missouri River in Dakota Territory. All the illustrations are depicted in the book “Sioux Winter Count - A 131-Year Calendar of Events” authored by Roberta Carkeek Cheney.
