Description

In a Lakota myth, the love flute was given to a young man by the Elk Men. The bull elk is always polite, noble, and gentle. He has a fine voice, and he is a wonderful husband - he has many wives and they are all happy. "The Elk Men Give the Flute" is a print by Paul Goble.

The Elk Men, who know that the young man is too shy to woo the girl he loves with words, bring him a flute, within which all the birds and animals have added their melodies. With the flute he has the ability to speak to the girl with music. The Elk Men carry hoops covered with fur and scented bergamot. Like the hoops of the Elk Dreamers, mirrors at the center of the hoops blind the young man...he cannot remember if he is asleep or awake. Image from the book the Love Flute.

Beautiful imagery Bold colors

I love the romanticism behind this print. The colors are bold and incredibly beautiful. I love having a Lakota story by a Lakota artist hanging in a place I can see it everyday.
