Hand Crafted Beaded and Quilled Doctor’s Bag
Non-Native American artist Chris Ravenshead created this collectable Doctor’s Bag. Historically, the Plains Indians traded for many types of items or found discarded items. These items were sometimes remade with the personal touch of the new owner. Elaborate quillwork designs and glass beadwork would adorn these repurposed treasures.
Chris covers the outside of the bag with soft leather. He goes back and decorates the bag with commercially dyed porcupine quills and hand cut glass Italian beads. The inside of the bag is an aged material that is original to the bag.
He finishes the bag with quill wrapped leather dangles that feature tin cones and dyed feathers, an tin cones with yellow horse hair dangles. The handle is covered with soft leather, quillwork and beadwork. The metal closure is original to the bag.
