Hand Beaded & Quilled Horse Head Mirror
Non-Native American artist Chris Ravenshead, Rapid City SD, is a talented quill and beadwork artist. He learned his skill many years ago while he was stationed at the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe Reservation, those grandmas taught him well.
Chris is lucky, he is from Belgium and can obtain old stock glass beads which is important if you are doing historical pieces. Small items like hand mirror were special pieces and often found in small bags which made it easier to carry with you.
Chris uses commercially dyed porcupine quills and glass beads on smoked deer leather. He secures the mirror and then attaches a hanger with solid metal beads.
