The Sunset Moth is a gorgeous day-flying moth from Madagascar. Entomologist and artist, Christopher Marley has preserved these specimens within a sealed, black shadow-box frame.
“The Sunset Moth flies all year but can be found in enormous numbers from May to July when gigantic waves of sunset moths have been said to be the most beautiful display in the animal kingdom. In the Victorian era, the wings of this species were used in jewelry making. As the caterpillar’s foodplant is poisonous, it is thought to be distasteful to predators, perhaps accounting for its large numbers.” ~Christopher Marley
Insects are preserved and displayed in a hermetically sealed (air tight) shadowbox frame.
