This amazing book is just that for a number of reasons! Mails was actually invited by the dancers to document the Sun Dances on both the Rosebud and Pine Ridge Reservations which was pretty much unheard of as images and photographs are simply not allowed for such ceremonies. Given that, it is the single thing that makes this book such an important piece of Native American history. It tells as well as shows the story about this particular important ceremony and gives fantastic information that will help keep these ceremonies alive for years and years.
