Del Iron Cloud is a Lakota artist who used acrylic on canvas to create, "Two Wolves." The painting of the wolves with the trees and mountains in the background takes up the top portion of the canvas. Below, the artist painted the lettering of, "The Tale of Two Wolves," to look like it was engraved in the stone. The famous tale, by an unknown author, has a universal message that speaks in a simple way to a common struggle and shared hope for each of us to strive toward.
The Tale of Two Wolves
One evening an old Cherokee told his grandson about a battle that goes on inside people. He said, "My son, the battle is between two 'wolves' inside us all.
One is evil. It is anger, envy, jealously, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego.
The other is good. It is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, forgiveness, truth, compassion, and faith."
The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather, "Which one wins?"
The old Cherokee simply replied, "The one you feed."
