"From a Dog Soldier Society," by Dakota Sioux artist JoAnne Bird, is a vibrant rendition in acrylic on canvas of a dog soldier. The headdress of the dog soldier is striking, and would be made of magpie feathers. The long red sash is significant as the dog soldier would stake it to the ground and fight to the death rather than ever flee. They were fierce and respected, an elite society. The image is painted around the edge of the canvas, ready to hang.
