Description
Local Native American beadwork artist Jared Lanz, Oglala Lakota Nation, hand beads this XLG Tipi Bag with hand cut glass Italian beads, these are the same beads that the Plains Indians first traded for with the U.S. government. The U.S. commissioned the Italian bead societies to make certain colored beads to trade with the Plains Indians just like the English commissioned those same Italians to create beads to trade with the indigenous African Nations.
Jared chose a really nice brain tanned hide, the back view shows the scrape marks and a spot where he sewed a small hole together. He decorates the flap closure with red horse tufts with metal cones and long leather thongs, these help to secure the bag closed.
He finishes the sides of the bag with more red horse hair tufts with metal cones and beadwork.
