Native American artist Thomas Ridley, Ute Mountain Ute Nation of Colorado, hand paints and decorates this shield to honor the Dog Soldier. Known throughout the Plains, a Dog Soldier was committed to his calling, protect your people at all costs.

Thomas paints a rawhide disc with acrylic paint, he adds a wool cloth drop that features imitation eagle feathers. The center of the shield is further decorated with red wool cloth and metal cones. 

The piece is signed by the artist.
