Native American Hand Made Two Cover Shield: Dreams of the Buffalo
Native American artist Jim Little Wounded, Minneconjou Lakota, hand paints and hand beads this two cover shield. The imagery depicts the spirit of the buffalo moving from the spirit world into the physical world.
Jim covers a rawhide disc with a soft leather cover. The cover is painted with acrylic paints and beaded with glass beads. Jim adds two amulets, one is the profile of a buffalo with a glass beaded body and a buffalo fur front. The second is a glass beaded three dimensional spirit buffalo head with colored fringe.
Jim completes the shield with imitation feathers and leather dangles that feature glass beads and metal bells. The piece is signed by the artist.
