Native American artist Thomas Ridley, Ute Mountain Ute Nation of Colorado, hand paints the image of a Thunderbird on this shield made from rawhide.

Thomas uses acrylic paint on a rawhide disc, he hand paints the heavenly image and then adds four wool cloth wrapped imitation eagle feathers. He finishes the decoration of the piece with a tiny sweetgrass braid and more red wool cloth.

Length is measured from the top of the shield to the bottom of the hanging feathers.
