Karl Bodmer: A Swiss Artist in America 1809-1893 (Book)

Prince Maximilian of Wied's scientific expedition to the Upper Missouri (1832-1834) was a highlight in the encounter between Europe and the New World.  The illustrations that Karl Bodmer created for the Prince's travel journal rank as masterpieces in the representation of the North American continent and its indigenous peoples.  On the occasion of the Zurich artist's 200th anniversary, the North America Native Museum is showing the complete series and attempts to classify his work in cultural historical terms.
