The land of the Dakotas is a land rich in unexplainable things and has been well before the coming of Europeans here in the upper plains of America.  There were accounts of both people and animals that returned from across the line that divides the quick from the dead.  That tradition continued with the arrival of the Europeans in their quest for gold.  The times were raw and the times were tough.   Life was "cheap" and often very profitable to take.  Those circumstances contributed to a land that is now rich in ghosts and spooks!
