Amongst the ideas of American Indian people about death is the belief that dying is like climbing up a long and difficult slope towards a high pine covered ridge on the Great Plains. "On the Ridge," is a print by Paul Goble.

From the top of this ridge we shall see the Spirit World, the place from which we came, and the place to which we shall return. It is said it will be like this world, except that we shall perceive it as even more beautiful as we will live there without fatigue or sorrow or illness. Here, a woman stands on the ridge - behind her the rocky, difficult slope, before her the gentle slope and green valley. She carries sage leaves, which are pleasing to the spirits. The crows encourage her to go on, down to the Land of Many Tipis. Image from the book Beyond the Ridge.

Note: All Paul Goble poster prints are published to museum quality standards using fade-resistant inks on 80# Ikonofix Dull Cover acid-free paper stock. The paper contains 50% recycled material. Listed in the copy, under each poster, is the book in which the illustration originates.

Print "On the Ridge"

I love this artist and the print. However, someone put your designed sticker over the explanation of the print and it now has glue on it that I cannot get out. I like to attach these to the back of the print when framing. I was also a bit shocked that the shipping fee was more than the print! It arrived in a huge priority mail box while the print was actually a third of its size. Wasn't there a better way to ship it?
