Original Ledger Art: 29 Horses
Lakota ledger artist, Donald F. Montileaux, used Prismacolor pencils and ink on antique ledger paper dating back to 1901 to create his piece entitled, "29 Horses."
Ledger art first came about in the mid-1800s when buffalo hides had become scarce and Native Americans needed an alternate surface onto which they could record events through the use of images.
This artwork has been custom framed with conservation mats and glass.
