May...a Time for Renewal & Optimism
Craft Sale: 20% off Shawl Fringe
* Sale ends May 31, 2012.
Nourishing spring rains have rejuvenated the Hills with color, song, and life - wild plum, chokecherry, and current bushes are full of blooms and the wild fruit blossoms have begun to fill the air with a delicious fragrance and the promise of a bountiful harvest.
Here in the store, a seasonal shift is also taking place. Our Native Gallery again is renewed with beautiful, original Lakota artwork by local artists and wonderful things to compliment one's Pow Wow attire, our book & music store is filled with story and song, and our Sioux Trading Post is alive with craft supplies for the Pow Wow season while we busily prepare botanicals for the upcoming Ceremonial season.
We welcome the many visitors that will soon visit our area - we look forward to seeing old friends and are excited to meet new ones.
New to the Native Gallery: Martingale with Crow Beadwork
Last month, Dan (our General Manager) and Michael (from our Sioux Trading Post) headed out to Montana to visit artists in Crow country. While there, they found this beautiful martingale (or horse collar) by Crow beadwork artist Olivia Rose Williamson.
"The art of decorating horses was done by many Plains Indian tribes, but the Crow culture was one of the best...and this beaded martingale is an exquisite example of this proud tradition. We are proud to have this piece in our gallery" - Dan Tribby
Featured Work: "Battle of Little Big Horn" Buffalo Robe
Much like the native war exploit hide paintings of the past, this painted buffalo robe by artist Michael McLeod tells the story of a legendary battle...for many it is known as The Battle of the Little Big Horn, but for some Native Americans this battle is remembered as The Battle of Greasy Grass.
In vivid detail, the robe depicts the critical battle between Native warriors as they clash with the US 7th Cavalry in their drive into Indian Territory.
