Fringed Lance

Created by non-Native American artist Dan Chapman, this lance was designed to be rammed, not thrown, the trick to using a lance was to let go at the right moment so as to get maximum force without toppling horse and rider.

The leather fringe decorating a lance calls upon the power of the wind to drive the lance to its mark. This lance features a fringe of 24 strands, a multiple of four, thus calling upon the four directions for guidance to the right spot. The blade, which is 12 inches in length, is made of hand-forged iron.
