Description

Created by non-Native American artist Dan Chapman, and inspired by a Plains Indian design, this bow set features a tapered bow case, a quiver with beaded details, long leather fringe, and decorated arrows.

The set includes (1) bow and (3) arrows. The bow case and arrow quiver are made of split-cowhide. The bow case has a tapered body; the quiver is embellished with white beadwork and red leather around its top opening, and a wooden spine along its top seam. The seams have been sewn with leather lacing and fringe hangs from the edges of the case and quiver. The bow is made of oak. It is stained a deep, reddish brown and painted with markings on both the inside and outside of the bow - black markings around the handgrip on the outside; and colorful tribal designs on an ochre background on the inside. It has a leather wrapped handgrip and is strung with imitation sinew. The arrows have ochre colored wooden shafts with groove marks and colored crests, wild turkey feather fletching, and long, tapered metal tips. The set hangs from a long, leather sash. The bow set is not made to be used as a weapon and is for display purposes only. The piece is part of the Prairie Edge Collection.
